Rams tie with Nevada in HOIAC golf meet

The Greene County boys golf team tied with Nevada for first place at the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference meet May 3 at Lincoln Valley Golf Course in State Center. Both teams scored 338, but the Cubs’ fifth score was 94, beating the Rams’ fifth score.

Joe Carey shot a 76, earning him the conference champion title. ack Hansen was runner up with a 77. “They both were incredible,” boys golf coach Heath Telleen said about the two. “I am so proud of the way our guys battled today. Obviously, we wish we could have come out on top, but this group has accomplished so much.”

The Rams were conference runner up in the 2021 season as well. Telleen said he wasn’t sure how long ago it was that the Rams had an individual champion.

Individual scores were Carey 76, Hansen 77, Caden Telleen 94, Nathan Behne 91, Kole Teeples 98, and Max Riley 101.

Team scores were Greene County 338,  Nevada 338, West Marshall 346, PCM 356, South Hamilton 345, Roland-Story 388, Perry 432, and Saydel 428.

The Rams shot their 9-hole low for the season, a 169, at Lakeside National Golf Course north of Grand Junction May 6. Telleen was medalist with a 3 over par 39. Behne was runner up with 40. Both were career 9-hole lows. Hansen shot 42, Teeples shot 49, Riley shot 51 and Parker Fitzpatrick shot 59.

The Rams hosted Glidden-Ralston. The Wildcats tallied 223 for the day.

The day earlier, May 5, the Rams placed second at the South Hamilton Invitational at Jewell. Hansen earned the third place medal with an 81. Other Ram scores were Behne 86, Carey 88, Teeples 97, Riley 97, and Telleen 109.

Coach Telleen described play as “a very nice round with the course playing veryt long due to wet conditions.”

Team scores at South Hamilton were Kuemper Catholic 337, Greene County 352, South Hamilton 353, Roland-Story 378, and Ogden 394.
